Restoring Family Links

Armed conflicts, natural disasters, and migration separate countless families, leaving behind pain and uncertainty. Not knowing the fate or whereabouts of a loved one has a profound impact on those left waiting for answers. Through Restoring Family Links (RFL) services, Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies support affected individuals in tracing missing family members and restoring contact with their loved ones. The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement works globally to reconnect families separated by borders, conflicts, or disasters, bringing hope where it may have seemed lost. A wide range of tools and services are used to restore family links. These include Red Cross Messages, Safe and Well Messages, telephone and satellite phone calls, distribution of SIM cards, establishment of Wi-Fi access points, and tracing requests. The service is available for the whole country. Eligibility Criteria - The applicant must reside in Romania. Assistance can be provided regardless of their legal status. If the applicant is in another country, we can provide the contact details of the National Society in their country of residence. - The person being sought must not have been born more than 100 years ago. - Preferably, the applicant and the person being sought should be immediate family members (first-degree relatives). - The loss of contact must not be the result of a family dispute. - The loss of contact must not be caused by legal disputes. - For cases related to the Second World War, the applicant must have exhausted all available tracing options, such as contacting the National Office for the Cult of Heroes (ONCE), the National Archives, Regional Archives, etc., without obtaining relevant information. Additionally, the person being sought must not have returned home after the war.
